Overview
Project Connect aims to create a live map of all schools in the world and the status of their Internet connection. It is the data foundation for Giga, a UNICEF and ITU initiative to connect every school and every young person to information, opportunity, and choice.
UNICEF is mapping the location and real-time Internet connection of every school in the world. This map, hosted on an open data platform, is helping governments and partners eliminate the digital divide globally. To date, over 900,000 schools in more than 35 countries have been mapped, and the number continues to grow at an accelerated pace.
Why mapping?
It shows where resources are needed
It lets us know where there is Internet and if it is reliable
It improves access to data for good
It highlights gaps in infrastructure
It captures market demand
